What is the Topsites List?
Topsites list is some kind of traffic exchange. Webmasters are submitting their site to exchange traffic with other RELATED listed sites. Visitor is coming to topsite listing following link with special code. On that way, visitors are "voting" for that site. Thanks to those votes, position of that site on Topsite listing is going up. This Topsite is protected from duplicated and automated hits, hits from bookmark and address bar are not counted, only unique votes are counted.
How sites are ranked?
Site ranking depends of number of clicks on top 50 link (URL with your ID number). More clicks on that link, better position on Top 50. Better position, more traffic.
My site is not listed after submission? Why?
There are few reasons for that:
- You need to wait 24-48 hours after the first click. After next maintenance (every 24 hours), your site will be listed. In meantime, clicks are recorded in database.
- You didn't activate site clicking on link, or you don't have any click from your site. New members, please, activate your site from your page clicking on provided link (your code).
- Your link is not complete, or your ID number is wrong. Check link, that you are sure that code is correct. Look again in message posted from top 50 for correct linking or check your ID from code search form.
I can't find my site using code search form
- You are using wrong email address. Every site is associated with email address. If wrong email address was entered, search code script cannot retrieve code if that email doesn't exist. You can have more than one websites under one email address.
- Your site is removed from Topsites database, it could be that content of your site, or your topsite link promotion is against Topsites TOS. In that case, email is sent to that site associated email address with explanation. In case that inactive (fake) email is submitted, your site will not be listed, and it will be deleted from database.
- Automated link checker is checking every site from time to time. If you are redirecting your listed site to some other unacceptable site, don't ask why you are not listed.
- Your site is banned, you are using unacceptable ways to boost your ranking.
- Your site listing is expired. No visitors from your site. Please scroll down for explanation.
Q: I know that was 3 clicks from my site yesterday, but today I saw only one?
In Clicks/day column, clicks are calculated on this way: clicks/day = Total clicks / days For example: your site was added 10 days ago. Say that you have 10 clicks in 10 days. Your clicks/day is 1. Anyway, you need at least one click / day (2 days) to keep your position. More clicks, better position. Simple.
Do I need to use button for linking?
No. You can use anything for linking to top 50. Or some other gif (picture), or text link. What more, you can put this link where you wish, but, without spamming in newsgroups or web boards. Although button is highly optimized, and don't slowing loading of your page, you can use what you wish. From time to time, button will be redesigned, and, if you like that design, (button is on bottom of top 50 page) it is easy to copy code (or image, save as) from this page.

Why is that site listed above all other sites?
Site of the day is chosen from first twenty sites sorted by hits/day. That link will stay there for the next 24 hours. It is rotation, and you will see your site listed there, if it is ranked in first twenty.
Site listing expiration
Listed sites with hits (visitors from that site) are going up, sites without hits are going down. Only one visitor in one or two days from your site is enough to keep your listing alive. Below 0.5 hit/day, number of hits displayed will be in yellow, and after some more time without visitors from that site, number of hits will be in red color, and link to that site disabled.
Those sites are still listed (without live link), or they are still in database, and to reactivate link again, they need only one click on supplied topsite link. After one month without visitors, those sites are removed from database You cannot receive traffic from others if you don't send traffic to others. Right?
My URL is changed. What now ?
You can enter new url (join again). Sites are ranked depending of daily hits. Nothing will change if you apply again with new URL. Just use new code for new site. Old site will be expired (no hits)
My description (or title) is not complete!
You can enter max 40 character long title and 100 chars long description, including spaces. Every char over that limit will be deleted. There is no warning message if you exceed that limit. If you copy/paste description, look at that limit. do not use HTML codes or strange characters.
Topsite and Search Engines (on request)
Link popularity of Topsites page is obtained from other sources, not from your sites. Topsites scripts are protected from search engine spiders, what means that redirecton links from your sites are not followed. However, listed sites are sharing Gogle PageRank, and, with search engine friendly links to your sites (clean url, without redirection), part of PR is passed to your site. That is one more reason to send visitors, because, as you can see, sites without hits are listed with disabled link, what means bigger part of cake (PR) for active sites.
Firewall and cheating
After clicking on topsite link, your visitor is transferred to anti-cheating page. From that page, he/she needs to click on topsite link to be redirected to a Topsite listing. That "firewall" was added few years ago, and it is good protection against "click cheaters". However, incoming traffic is monitored, and cheaters are spotted very easy. Few clicks on day from webmasters will be tolerated;-), but dirty JavaScript tricks, hidden frames, web robots, etc.. will not. That site will be deleted from database ASAP. Play fair.
What kind of site can be submitted?
Freebies sites, games/cheats, freeware, webmaster tools sites, NonProfit sites, personal sites, even commercial sites (page with free samples, sweepstakes, etc...), sites with useful and free information for visitors. On English language, please. It is important that your site offers something free for visitors, and that is "family friendly".
